Legislators do need to think through the pros and cons of paying districts to graduate kids early. The scholarship money, however, is an easy call. The money would go to the state's brightest and most college-ready students, and provide them one more financial incentive to stay in Idaho. And if these students attend college in Idaho, they are that much more likely to pursue a career in Idaho.

A Boise lawmaker is calling for the state to set up a private fund that could make loans of up to $35,000 to startup companies and other growing businesses in Idaho, a move that he says could trigger some badly needed job growth.
